The combination of teenage drivers and alcohol often leads to tragic consequences in Green Bay and throughout Wisconsin. This appears to have been the case once again after a car accident near Tomah. The recent collision occurred just west of Tomah on I-90 eastbound. While precise details of the incident were not immediately clear, it appears the vehicle had gone off the interstate and landed at the bottom of an embankment. An 18-year-old male passenger was ejected from the car.
The victim suffered what have been characterized as life-threatening injuries, though no further word on his medical condition was immediately available. The 19-year-old driver is a resident of Lacrosse. Her injuries were said to be less serious. Authorities have stated that they believe alcohol was a factor in the car accident. However, it was not immediately known if the driver was charged with any alcohol-related offenses, and the investigation is said to be ongoing.
Certainly the families and friends are hoping for the complete recovery of both individuals. Unfortunately, this accident underscores the serious and devastating consequences that drunk driving can have on others. Few people who choose to drive drunk understand that their choice often affects several other people, including the family and friends of those injured or killed in a collision. Hopefully this accident will serve as a reminder to all Wisconsin drivers that negligent driving -- including drunk driving, texting while driving and other forms of distracted driving -- can often result in serious car accidents.
